Animato's universe is sort of a special case because of lore reasons but Pareidolia specifically was designed with a "beaky" look with the creased paper face, its an interpretative bat/moth/bird

I think the fact that it is in 3D CG is the best choice the team could make because it allows the animators to create very dynamic and super fluid He action sequences. The aesthetics is really outstanding.
