From 1839 to 1843, James Clark Ross lead an expedition to carry out a magnetic survey of the Antarctic region. During one particularly harrowing moment, captured below by John E. Davis, 2nd Master aboard HMS Terror, the two ships had to force their way through the pack ice.

I’ve been watching “Castlevania” on for 12 minutes, & it’s sooooooo melodramatic, harrowing, and terrible (in a great way)! It’s visually spectacular and ridiculous (in a great way)! How did I never hear about this before? Loving it!!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤

Tread carefully beneath the moonlight
Shadows scream upon the coming night
Guided by a dragon eyes glowing crimson
Alluring beauty watch the dead soon risen
A harrowing season coming it’s time to treat
No tricks needed when candies taste so sweet

THE WAR OF THE WORLDS by H. G. Wells-Not exactly horror, but it does have a Halloween tradition. A gripping narrative full of ideas. Wells's prose is precise but descriptive, economical but almost poetic. The pace is fast, the action harrowing. This is still an excellent read.

It's hard to pick just one, but these are four covers that really stopped me in my tracks. (Sunrunner's Fire by Melanie Rawn, Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milan, The White Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey, and Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir.)

Me + and the song I've been looping (Harrow the Ninth got me feeling a kind of way that only the Decemberists understand, man. That said, close second was Bad Love from KEY) https://t.co/Z1MYJ9UW4k
