Digital or irl? Digital is layers :D and for irl it depends on the medium. Mostly I use lightfast and waterproof markers and pens with alcohol makers, paint, or watercolor.

One benefit of coloring in word balloons is you can save the color white for deliberate effect rather than having white just be sort of a default non-color. Not quite, but close! Here: no special fx, and each polygon kind has the same color. There are 6 collinear sides on the outer part. And the 42-gon is slightly irregular, with 6 angles slightly sharper than the others.

So this is a spectrum of what brain fluid looks like when it drips onto artist grade watercolor. Well, my fluid, anyway. It looks almost like nebulae, it changes as it dries. How weirdly pretty this freaky anomalous physical issue is.
