a large part of why the sonic and elise thing is so off-putting is because it's pairing a stylized cartoon with an uncanny attempt at a realistic human. aesthetically, they don't mesh at ALL.
topaz is much more stylized, which helps her look much better when put next to rouge.

I still don't understand how the game director of DOTD messed up this badly. The concept art was more true to the OG designs, had balanced anatomy, and such. And he chose the design that looked like an hourglass, looked painful and uncanny. And DOTD Cynder's canonically 15 btw.

I would have to say from the long list.. John Byrne. His work on Uncanny X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, Alpha Flight, Incredible Hulk, Avengers West Coast.. long list of stuff I enjoy and still enjoy to this day.
