According to Ancient Phoenician Myth, that touched the earth were known as Baetylus. Revered as sacred stones that were endowed with life & given by the gods. Some were preserved for worship & brought into temples; such as the effigy of Rhea Cybele.

'The Introduction of the Cult of Cybele at Rome' is one of four pictures commissioned in 1505 by Francesco Cornaro a Venetian nobleman. Andrea Mantegna only completed one before his death and Gentile Bellini supplied the other paintings.
