It did not. Mappa was flying way before and after YoI not to mention its animation was badly budgeted, it was a mid-show in terms of quality. Mappa has a whole catalogue of bangers, they just aren't all easily sellable to westerners, like most anime typically isn't.

Fun fact: Apothecary Diaries is a seinen. Both manga adaptations. The current light novel series is also male-targeted.
But actually the first novel is targeted for the female audience.
Demographic change’s quite common when series switches publishers or in adaptations.
