Draw robot masters.

They have giant hands, so it's easier to draw them, and then take that lesson and minimize it.

Drawing robot masters in general helped me a lot with developing my artwork.

In this case, I added cut planes in areas that would be convenient to split the model to minimize the need for support material. Then I had to add holes/recesses to mount the pieces together with screws. These pics show the unique pieces:
