First iteration. Odo-like smoothing. Helps sell the genericicity of the trope. I dunno, though. I like the angularity of the first design.
I think the dot eyes and mouth slit could be smaller.
Testing out an application so that I won't need to smooth lines with Adobe Animate's horrible smoothing. A lil rugged but... I like the texture it makes

then sorted out the smoothing groups, did the 2 turbosmooth with smoothing groups ticked and then 1 turbosmooth with it unticked method for the HP :D
Currently half of episode 1 is boarded! The pace is steadily smoothing out and should become even more consistent after all the boards are completed (which will be by mid April at latest!)

Not super fond of how the bangs in particular are smoothing out. The face I know can be helped with textures/ some tweaking after but the hair I'm not so sure.

I haven't played Phantom Brave. Are the sprites filtered like this in the original game? That's some tough smoothing happening
@RubberNinja i'm a game artist, and i mostly work my way up from low polygon counts rather than sculpt, so all my stuff is mid-poly with handplaced topology. for faces, i cut loops around the eyes and mouth and just add detail and polygons for smoothing. for joints... i suffer
it's a (slightly wobbly bc my line smoothing had a hiccup) magpie
