Functioning labels don't simplify anything. What they do is cause some to make harmful assumptions. "High functioning? You're basically not autistic. Low functioning? You can't do anything." If you want to discuss a person's autism do it in a way that said person would prefer.

One of my students has been battling with this painting for a couple of days. I’ve been urging her to loosen up and throw some paint at it. Today, she got a big brush and painted out the background in sky blue, thereby simplifying and improving the whole. She left, smiling!

thinking about small figures again. Share how you simplify drawing smaller figures or people at a distance!

mine go from having dot eyes to just a curved line for a nose. In profile i just draw sort of a wedge to indicate a nose? but don't bother with lips etc. And mitten hands.

I was trying to do some research for digital coloring. I wasn't able to find an answer. But I was able to simplify the start up process. So that helps. Line art is by Dawn McTeigue. I thought this would be a good time to use those coloring pages.
