They've already did a Leviathan, a Djinn, an Orochi that relies on mechanical limbs, along with aforementioned thunder oni, and I kinda want to see this trend continue

After all sonic is a "Hedgehog Fairy" he's sort of a modern day embodiment of nature & freedom himself.
