Maybe they did that to avoid confusion? If a new player checked the old map, the hidden path would make them think it lead them to the Cove, instead of the Mine Shack.

When the Forest opened in 2007, it only lead to the Plaza and Cove. It wasn't until 2010 that a path to the Mine Shack was added.

However, there is a path hiding behind the top right bush that matches up with the room's concept art. It is unknown where this path would've lead.
