This was interesting. A blend of spacefaring sci-fi and traditional Korean folktales. Not to mention a prominent character whose nonbinary status is treated as no big deal.

'The Troll Book'
(1980- Michael Berenstain)

Michael is the son of "Berenstain Bears" creators Stan and Jan, and inherited their lush, folksy style of illustration, thank goodness.

After waiting a year to hear back from a publisher on her new folktale, Julia Donaldson sent it to this artist.

He submitted it to Macmillan. A week later, they had a book deal for, “The Gruffalo”.

I learned the derivation of SERENDIPITY from dramatist Alain-René Lesage, born May 6 1668: Sri Lanka's Arabic name=SERENDIB. His wildly colonialist harlequinade "Arlequin roi de Serendib" (1713) adapts Euripides' IPHIGENIA IN TAURIS & folktales about finding treasure accidentally

From 'One Thousand and One Nights' (Aladdin, I assume). The folktale was not part of the original Arabic text, it was added in the 1700s by a Frenchman who said it was told him by a Syrian storyteller. Illustrated here by Edmund Dulac in 1907.
