just the look but also mechanic. Seems like similar thing is happening to the Yoshi franchise too, kinda. Yoshi's Island had this hand drawn crayon artstyle, no gimmicks relating to that. But now newer games doubling down this child-like feature to be part of series' gimmick.

The main thing I miss about Sonic is the "radicalness" he used to have. He used to give off this "I'm not like those other characters/franchises your kids like, I'M COOLER!" attitude
This was especially there in the 90s + 2000s games as well as both the Archie and Fleetway comics
