Interestingly, (and for the same reason as Baymax) those were Not supposed to be Dumbos.
It was originally developed as the much more story consistent "Pink Elephants" Ride as seen in this 1953/4 concept by Bruce Bushman.

Very rare to see feral elephants in intense desperation. I find them to be the cutest feral in these kinds of situations in part due to their massive size relative to other land mammals.
