I started with a Chinese android tablet and my finger and graduated to a Samsung note with the s-pen. It really revolutionized what I could do. I love Autodesk sketchbook so much that I always go back to it.
Here's some of what I've done on it.

Autodesk Sketchbook is also a great alternative and is free! I've used it for all my works and its pretty easy to figure out. Definently great for beginners.
