then I select a color at a time > duplicate it > select the flat color and do a couple shading passes using multiply for shadows, add for highlights, and screen for bounce light. I just copy the flat color and work with that for all layers, regardless of how good or bad it looks

Instead of inking individual hair strands, I draw the hair mass as a whole and develop the shadows and highlights almost like woodblock cuts
