One of very few studies I've finished lately.

It makes me want to do more dynamically lit portraits but it also reminds me that my portraits are a little lifeless and stiff. I'll see what i can do about that.

If it looks good to you it'll look AMAZING to non-artists, trust me. My art used to be VERY "stiff" lookin bc I'd spend hrs tryin to get everything to look "anatomically correct" instead of enjoying myself and letting my works be messy and/or unfinished

admittedly there are some instances where the character's default standing pose is a stiff straight line but sometimes they can stand with a curve as well, and usually they have line of action for more expressive poses such as the ones below (they look better when not stiff)

Gotta get Kevin Holland in the book so I’m playing around with a live sketch from the Woolley vs Covington card.

The initial drawing is unremarkable but it provides a good jumping off point.

Your ankles stiffen because you never move them through a full range of motion.

Do these rotations daily to prevent pain and restrictions down the line.
