I definitely think the uniform (looks very child-like) has something to do with it, but also the art style. The previous games had distinct clothing and very obvious male/female “body types,” whereas now it seems a lot more “neutral” and “child-like.”

My only complaint about Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is the protagonist design. Main series protags had a pretty distinct look, but the gen 9 character looks more like a side game design and is pretty off-putting imo
