I think an important thing of interest with YGO Monsters is seeing how the background flashes and whatnot are carefully selected to fit their monster's theme. A very lightly defined forest that fades away from the foreground, bubbles and water surface patterns, etc, it's a style.

I feel humans have always struggled with this as our social structures evolved from local hunter gathering groups. With each stage, starting with only engaging with only your family to connecting with neighboring villages etc, we've had to shorten attention spans gradually.
