The Sly Cooper trilogy is without a doubt my favorite series of platformers.
Three of the most consistent and well-written platform games I've ever played. I believe these games are where Sucker Punch found their footing and they're definitely the reason I follow SP to this day.
15. MagicalxSpiral Demo. I don't know what attracts me to a lot of indie platformers with a low budget, but this one is at least pretty fun to play. The Level design could use a little work, but the actual mechanics are really good.

(Mad Rat Dead would've made the list, but it isn't an autoscroller. Still a good game though.)

Ridiculously replayable, STELLAR animation/art direction, cinematic music, and has the best canon when it comes to lore.
Highly recommend either the PC or Dreamcast ports!
Here's how my vblank worst case looks after (left) and before (right) the changes I've made so far today. It kind of seems like if you need to make a bunch of separate changes to VRAM (as platformers may), that's just kind of unavoidably going to limit your bandwidth some amount.

I've been playing the Megaman ZX games lately, and they're fantastic little platformers, feeling more akin to a Metroidvania than the usual level based titles, the graphics are beautiful, and the 'biometal' armours fantastic

As the DLSite page says, this game's all-ages, so I can recommend it to anyone who wants a mix of Lode Runner, Apogee-like platformers, and a bit of Touhou charm.
