If you ever saw art like this on the internet and wondered why the Eva and Gunbuster universes had converged, it's from one of the many Eva related games that are out there. I believe this one is an Eva Mahjongg game for the original Playstation.

Scratch that. After a quick Google search, I found that the original Digimon debut in 1997 WAS...

a virtual pet.

The first video game adaptation was 2 years later, with "Digimon World" on PlayStation.
