I think what helps it is that it’s a very slim, “classical hero” look. The look for Tony that most think of before is the chunkier, more obviously armored designs, with a bit of a “rounded” look. So this being a slimmer and sharper design provides a stark (heh heh) difference

I know this sounds kind of crazy but I compared the Scythe design in the files to the top part of Ruby‘s Scythe in RWBY and it actually looks pretty similar. The design in the files has slightly sharper edges but the design is really close.

yeah, it's too straight. i would've used the brave and the bold design as inspiration, since the bangs there have sharper edges that sort of invoke icicles. and i just really like how her hair is drawn in that show
