I much prefer the cover art by Clint Langley for the original omnibus, seems to be much more fitting for the 40K aesthetic.

Still think it's amongst the best 40K stuff Black Library has published and arguably the best Dan Abnett has written for them.

It's probably due to having less saturation than other modern CN shows (probably why steven turns yellow-ish in the crossover). UG also uses more cornsilk white than the regular digital white, less straining on the eyes and gives off a comic/vintage aesthetic.

I don’t think they’re inherently cutesy nor that cartoony precludes a saccarine aesthetic. Sonic is a very anime brand and coolness was the core. Cool lead the designs of Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and games like Sonic Rush. The OVA and CD OP, too.
