For slimness, cardio is your best bet!
To slim down and tone it’s better to do cardio at a lower intensity for a longer period of time. If I go to the gym for 1 hour, I do stretching, 45 mins of cardio, then toning exercises like squats & crunches the rest of the time!

I've only done planks the last couple of days while I also wanna do other things (weightlifting & cardio)

Also important: Taking it easy. I either have to stop trying to work out daily or do something light to keep me in shape, but not exhausting whenever I feel out of energy
