This week's #MerriweatherMonday is a 1933-35 afternoon dress made from printed chiffon and was purchased from the New York luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. It would then be hand sewn by private dressmakers to fit her and her preferences. #FashionHistory
Today's #ootd is a lovely 1912-13 House of Worth Woman's jacket. It is a jacket that would have been worn at home and its style is a combination of an 18th c. riding coat and a Louis XVI court dress. It was worn by Jane Norton Morgan, the wife of J. P. Morgan. #FashionHistory
Today's #ootd is a 1880 brocaded silk damask two piece gown. The fabric is a bit "much"and makes it look like a bathroom, but shows the attention to fabric and trimmings that reminds me of the fashions of the late 1700s. #FashionHistory
Today's #ootd is a 1909-1910 evening dress @GoldsteinMuseum. It has a beaded Greek design beaded fringe along the edge of the white chiffon that covers a pink silk underdress! Absolutely adorable! #FashionHistory
This week's #FridayFrills truly lives up to its name. It's a 1774-93 French court suit. Made of silk velvet with the highest quality embroidery this suit epitomizes the decadence and elitism of the ruling class that the French will rebel against #FashionHistory
#Happy4thofJuly! For today's Rev #ootd here's the most American thing I could think of- Washington's 1789 military uniform. Sadly none of his Rev War uniforms survive but this is an amazing piece as it materially represents GW's elegant modesty #FashionHistory @MountVernon
Today's #4thofJuly #ootd is a 1780-85 Scottish gown. Interestingly, despite Scotland's history of fighting for their independence, many Scottish people in England and America fought were Loyalists. Read https://t.co/BGiD5JjP8J to find out why. @V_and_A #FashionHistory
The wild hairstyles of 1839! Note the “mechanical” brushes meant to deliver cleansing products for men’s beards w/out sullying one’s hands. Les Cent-Un Coiffeurs de Tous les Pas. #fashion #fashionhistory #fashionplates #hairdressing #hair #beards #barbers #fitnyc #designarchives
Today's #ootd is a 1910 purple Worth satin gown with velvet paisley design. This dress has a very interesting history- it was worn by Cornelia Sherman Martin, the daughter to a close friend of Abraham Lincoln, and the hostess of the famous Bradley Martin Ball. #FashionHistory
This week's #MerriweatherMonday is a 1910-12 Widoff grey velvet evening dress with ivory lace and embroidered beading. Interestingly, this dress may have been made earlier, as "the side seems have been reshaped and the hemline has been altered." #FashionHistory @HillwoodMuseum
This week's #MerriweatherMonday is a dress that Dina Merrill, Marjorie's youngest daughter, wore to her mother's wedding to Joseph Davies (her third husband). It is heavily inspired by the Regency era. In fact, it reminded my of a painting of Josephine by Appiani #FashionHistory
It’s a great day for a classic ‘70s sci-fi film! Such spectacular costumes designed by Bill Thomas for Logan’s Run. I love the acidy green, pink, and red color palette. I can never get enough of the Grecian as futuristic aesthetic of early science fiction movies! #fashionhistory
For this week's #MerriweatherMonday, here is one of Marjorie's 1903-04 afternoon dresses. This dress' bodice is region breasted- referring to shirts that were gathered and pleated with excess fabric in the front. Another term for it is monobosom... #FashionHistory
This week's #FridayFrills is this one of the most beautiful wedding dresses I've ever seen. It's from 1887 and is made of silk, beads, and faux pearls. It also has artificial flowers on the bust and the bottom of the skirt. #FashionHistory @Cincinnatiartmuseum
I cannot tell you how much I love today's #ootd. It's a 1910-19 dress that looks like a sailor's costume. And I may not be imagining that. British Naval uniforms were popular since the Victorian era, especially women's versions in the early 1900s. @GoldsteinMuseum #FashionHistory
Although not #MerriweatherMonday, for the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, here is the outfit Marjorie wore when the NY State Woman's Suffragette Party meet with President Woodrow Wilson + a typical suffragette hat! @Dressed_Podcast #FashionHistory
The Genoese Noblewoman (1625-1627) by Anthony Van Dyck reflects dress trends of the early 17th century, particularly in Genoa, such as rich silks ornamented with metallic lace, starched ruffs and the deep "V" shaped bodice.

Puce: a colour favored by Marie Antoinette & popular in the late 18thc/ early 19thc. Puce is French for flea; the colour is described as resembling congealed blood or a flea after it’s been crushed on white linen— a familiar shade in its heyday. #FolkloreWords #fashionhistory
This week's #MerriweatherMonday is this peach-colored taffeta gown with a brocaded rose pattern that Marjorie Merriweather Post wore for the marriage of her daughter, Nedenia, to Stanley Rumbough, Jr. in 1946. The sleeves & bow are quite dramatic! @HillwoodMuseum #FashionHistory
