The monster design actually preceded production I believe and was based on the “horrible but beautiful” art of H.R. Giger, which had caught the eye of screenwriter Dan O’Bannon.

Hema Foss started off as timid princess with ice magic and grew into a matriarch for a giant family tree of OCs. Hema became a mom while very young. Shortly after her own kids began marring she stepped down from the throne to follow her dream to become a doctor.
