Well, that's one theory on 'porphyry'. Another one claims the word derives from the Greek πορφύρα porphyra extracted from murex shells in ancient Greece, so I will go for royal purple Aigai, the first capital of Macedon, Greece. Persephone's garment is dyed in porphyra.
