My take on the designs is, they're moving to more articulated designs, switching out clunky elements for streamlined elements.

The new designs help streamline animation, the golden rule is keep it simple. This is KIND OF A THING with any animation EVER. Tell an animator "hey animate THIS" (the old design) they run for the hills. As long as they pass the silhouette test IT'S FINE. Which they DO.

I don't know if this is a hot take, but I always prefer more blocky, chunky mecha designs to more streamlined ones.

I can't articulate it in words properly, but I like how RX 78 looks in comparison to GN-0000 for example. I also like Unicorn more than Barbatos
