You might use another blending mode for the gradient, like "color" or "lighten". This example uses the "lighten" mode.
But these two colors are the ones that achive the closest look.
For the color editing we need to give shadows a greenish tone and mid and light tones a warm bend. For this we can meld all the layers in one new layer and apply a gradient map. After that, lowering the opacity and using the mode "overlay" will get this characteristic effect.

Went ahead and colored it. Normally she wears an armored kimono-like garb that is cotton-candy-colored with soft gradients. This one is inspired instead by the sunset.

Here you can see a consistent line where the shading has a blur filter applied, and because a simple line is easier to animate and keep track of than manual airbrushing, if you keep the Gaussian blur value consistent then each frame's gradient will be consistent too
