It was also an attempt to emulate the Ace Attorney official art. I think it's pretty good for a first try.

They do a good job actually trying to emulate the 2D style in terms of color, size, landscapes, limited shading etc into 3D and from a concept art point, these two screenshots look great.

It's just not as fun to move through these environments as it is to look at them.
