based on horse fly and the helhest, this creature is actually a colony of small insect-like creatures, they use their acidic saliva to meltdown bone and make up a skeleton which they control like a puppet, that helps scare off bigger creatures. They swarm others to suck off blood

the smaller one is Dunkleosteus, not sure how much the size comparisson holds up. Either way, while still having those armored jaws, they are much smaller and lack the cutting edge of Dunkleosteus, instead functioning to keep swarms of smaller fish in afaik.
