When applying shadows, you can shade them in gray like the grisaille painting method, and then process each layer using a warm or cool color scheme folder.

I've done the same thing!! It's really impressive what you can do with this method. You can just slightly stylize your screenshot, or even iterate on a character design.

All of these came from VRChat screenshots initially:

-add filters, usually overlays or multiplys of the piece's colour
-shade eyes
-fuck around with the background (lines, shapes, glitch effects etc)
-merge all layers
-add chromatic aberration (opacity 10-20%)
