Once saw a post somewhere that said the Neverhood was a big influence on Kaiba. Idk if that's legit, but it would make sense considering that the director likes cartoony western stuff & that the main character has a hole in his chest, like Klaymen.

I like having a cartoony style cause most of the time I can just slam some random lines around and it works, of course Mundo's teeth are fun as hell to draw cause messy but I also love sharp teeth, perfectly straight ones, yadda yadda

thankfully cartoony styles are much more forgiving with "accurate" anatomy, but the point still stands even with more "realistic" styles. mistakes i used to make usually come from overfocusing too early.
