this is the meat of it - a colored shadow layer in multiply with brighter color modulation on the shadow edges to hint at light diffusion, and a colored light layer in screen to add some backlight (in this case green from the background/environment)

I use this tip all the time. To make colored lineart easily color the lines a faded red, set the layer to multiply, duplicate the line layer, set to color burn. Lower the opacities of both and gaussian blur the copy to make the art look softer 👌
