In J.R.R. Tolkien’s translation of the Elder Edda, it is said of the dragon, Fafnir:
Men sing of serpents
ceaseless guarding
gold and silver
greedy-hearted;
but fell Fafnir
folk all name him
of dragons direst,
dreaming evil.

This is the kind of #fairytale I struggle with because it is clear that the dark griffin is pursuing the unicorn and rider in a bad way, but I just want to be his friend.

Lévi-Strauss once said that “animals are good to think with” -they stick in our consciousness. Perrault’s Puss in Boots, that elegant, Gallic feline, offered poor children fairy-tale paths to flee poverty: via savoir-faire, sartorial agency, & cunning. 😉📚

St George & the dragon
Legend says there was a dragon demanding a tribute of human sacrifices from a city. One day it was the turn of the King' s daughter. St George was passing by and he heard about this, so he went to the dragon' s lair and slayed it.
1733 in Renwick, a Cockatrice took up residence in the ruined church. A local man, John Tallantine killed the creature using rowan tree branch, although some believe it can still be seen flying around the church at night.

#FairyTaleTuesday #TheGriffin is a fairy #tale collected by #TheBrothersGrimm. In medieval #legend griffins mate 4 life, if one partner dies, then the other will live the rest of its life alone. They’ve a special significance 4 me but that’s another story.

UNICORN🇯🇵
From Japanese lore, we find two types of unicorns, Sin-You and Kirin. Kirin is a kind creature, and Sin-You has the power to detect those who lie, if it found someone guilty, would kill them by impaling it's horn to the person's heart..
