I've been mourning Great Comet all day. This show had no right to be as gorgeous and inspirational as it was. It literally got me to read the 1400 page book it was based on and it gave me one of my fav ships, Pierretasha. Here's a War and Peace Pierretasha kiss. I miss you Comet!

Aphrodite mourning Adonis. As Adonis died in Aphrodite's arms, red anemones sprouted from the soil. Some say the flowers sprouted from nectar, or that his blood stained anemones red, but I think flowers from Aphrodite's tears mingling with blood sounds more romantic.

Writing about mourning is so emotionally draining. This was Ann Frankland Lewis' watercolour for 1797, the year her husband died. Ann had lost her elder daughter only four years previously, and would go on to lose her younger daughter (possibly depicted) in 1810.
