but you know what? this perhaps unexpected blurriness of gender/age/story genres is part of what makes manga so much fun to read! Oshi no Ko (fr. ) is *not* what you expect it will be from it's cover, and that's amazing https://t.co/x6idDIgKos

i think overseas readers/booksellers are attracted to "shonen/shojo manga" genre classifications b/c it fits our mental model of 'OK for a certain age group' + general stereotypes of "what boys like/what girls like," but we get confused the lines are blurred more than we expect

Batman Brave and the Bold is something that embraces the silver age of comics and I think is better at it than the mcu

Is it more useful to overseas readers to discover manga they might like if we classify them by readers’ gender? By age rating (all ages, teens, older teens or age 18+)? By story genre (romance, sci-fi, fantasy, horror)? Or combos like “mature romance” or “all-ages fantasy”?

Draw my oc challenge! :D
Name: Taylor
Age: 19 (will be 20 in a few weeks.)
Extra: The dude smokes. He fights in battles a lot but his armor relies more on enchantments than the material for protection so his armor is made from blue crystals and leather. (1/2)

All of this is just to say that age/gender-based manga genre classifications aren’t as strictly defined as overseas readers might want or expect them to be. Knowing the original intended target audience in JP can provide helpful context, but it’s evolving as we speak

Did you know boots have different designs for each age?

The 2nd boot is from 1980 “AstroBoy”, the second color version. Shorter in length with a larger instep😊

Brietta, fairy of forest and animals. Redesign of my oldest fairy, which was created in 2011. I wanted to make her more infantile in the style of the 1st season, otherwise the long skirt and cold palette did not convey her young age very well
