I love this early Knuckles Archie design. Really cute and charming...
The way he spoke in Japanese was super cringe too. Capcom toned him down for the international release and changed his lip colour, but it was still bad.
The Archie Comics version fixed him more and used his scarf to hide the lips, but there's only so much they could do 😓

Thinking about how Sonic Chronicles actually had Swatbots in it as enemies.
Combined with the obvious Archie inspiration with the echidna stuff, this game literally the closest we got to Archie representation in the games PERIOD.

Creator Evan Stanley stated on her Tumblr blog that she was leaning towards having Gold be either bisexual or lesbian during her time working at Archie. Unfortunately, the comic was canceled before this could be demonstrated in-universe.

@KenPenders That’s just 1 of 8 different covers that issue has Ken and it’s the only one to not feature Sonic. If buyers want one that features him they have a choice.
Besides, Archie did issues that didn’t feature Sonic on the cover and these issues didn’t have variant covers.
Thinking about how Marine the Raccoon hasn't gotten a real appearance since 2013's Pirate Plunder Panic story arc by Tracy Yardley in Archie Sonic right precisely when the reboot began... that was her last time to shine thus far.
