The Cuphead Show's emulation of older cartoons is fantastic!

Everything from the dust/scratches on the video, the watercolor backgrounds, to the slight drop shadow of the characters to simulate cel animation brings it altogether👌

I know I'm a sucker for cel-shaded 3D animation, but one of the techniques I'm starting to obsess over is when they're 3D but they're animated by 2s 😮

Examples of movies and shows that do this:

I'd say go wild!! For example you could try mixing soft shading with cel shading or just use one for one area and the other for the other area! It sounds very vague but trying out is always the best :O
Some examples by me;
1st would be soft and 2nd is a mix

Cel animation is just such a lost art. I hope one day a small studio with big dreams can revitalize it somehow for something great and ambitious. It really warms my heart to see more and more digital artists are trying to replicate the look in their work at least.

Finally got a chance to practice a lot more of my cel shade inspired Jerry designs a lot more lately. These were definitely a lot of fun to do and practice visual effects. I wanted to go full on Tex Avery one this one xD
