Today for #FFTA we celebrate the birthday of Alfred Frank Hardiman (1891-1949), born on this day in 1891.
Alfred was born in London, the son of a talented silversmith in Holborn. When he left school he trained as a draughtsman and attended the Central School for Arts and Crafts.
After WW1, Arturo Nathan (1891-1944) suffered severe war trauma and he began painting on the advice of his psychiatrist. In WW2 he was labelled a prisoner of Jewish decent, by the Nazis & was deported to Biberach concentration camp in Germany where he died.

This #Masdevallia wageneriana was published in The Genus Masdevallia (1891-1896). The plates and text were by Florence H Woolward (1854-1936) who used the plants growing in the extensive #orchid collections of the Marquess of Lothian at Newbattle Abbey #ExtraordinaryOrchids
