I let the dice roll where they fall but make sure to give the party plenty of room to wiggle out of bad hits.
I am normally not the biggest fan of people DMing me with "you will like this site", but man, @littlebitspace fuckin' nailed it - this is extremely my bag, and they've clearly decided to go whole hog on ANSI, PETSCII and the aesthetics of skulls and shadow and it's working.
