As for Shin Megami Tensei, I haven't played most of them. I hear they are all good (and SMT3 & 5 are coming to Switch). I hear Shin Megami Tensei IV is a decent starting point (and its sequel, SMTIV Apocalypse).

Devil Survivor is also recommended a lot.
