I just find them more fun. I feel as though the hyper-realistic designs can get overused. Plus these guys are just easier to draw.

i just wanted to try again at drawing sonic with the mario artstyle, this time with the shading style. i've seen that hair is usually a full gradient shade to white, and since sonic's all "hair"... whoop.
