Beginning underpainting stages, excuse the janky handwriting. This is genuinely fun. I haven't done this in a really long time.

Most of my paintings have what I call a “weird bit”. It’s usually a section of underpainting that is so unique, that I can’t bear to cover it up even though it makes no sense in the finished painting.

process:

lay down base colors -> map out values w/ sepia underpainting -> merge together -> paint, refine, and add detail

*also than is playing a double aulos

the truth is I just wanted to test out CSP's timelapse feature and try to paint with an underpainting bc I'm a masochist

this is a page from the beginning of team up mission that i colored and painted a background for! this took foreeeeverrrr but I love how it came out. The underpainting is the same rainbow as the 'side' characters, but i'm not sure that comes through as much.
