Maybe a stretch but I think of my comic as being for & about young adults. specifically mid 20s folk who are in the middle of learning that “growing up” is not a straightforward, linear process, and that sometimes it’s 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

You can do a lot with different fonts and the style of your word bubbles to convey tone! I try to keep my base font pretty neutral most of the time and save big font changes for maximum impact. (If everything is bold, nothing is!)

The tone/mood of Sombulus is overall optimistic and happy, so I use brighter colors and energetic poses design. When I want to shift a scene to be more serious/reflective, I'll reduce the palette and add a lot more breathing space.
