Rubens, “Assumption of the Virgin Mary” in Antwerp’s Cathedral of Our Lady. Rubens submitted sketches & won commission in February, 1611. Completed in September, 1626, his altarpiece painting exemplifies the Northern Baroque style with dramatic gestures & a flock of putti.

Paul Delvaux’s 1962 oil -Les Belles de nuit / The Beautiful Night, speaks more of nudism than surrealism in beautifully crafted street scene reminiscent of Antwerp spirit; I can imagine adding strolling nudes in my WC street scenes abscent surreal night mood:

Due to an affair with Anna, his father was imprisoned. Following his father’s death the family moved to Antwerp (1589) where Rubens was raised a Catholic. Duke of Lerma (1603) & Virgin & Child (c1604)
