Rubens, “Assumption of the Virgin Mary” in Antwerp’s Cathedral of Our Lady. Rubens submitted sketches & won commission in February, 1611. Completed in September, 1626, his altarpiece painting exemplifies the Northern Baroque style with dramatic gestures & a flock of putti.
@olgatuleninova Paul Delvaux’s 1962 oil -Les Belles de nuit / The Beautiful Night, speaks more of nudism than surrealism in beautifully crafted street scene reminiscent of Antwerp spirit; I can imagine adding strolling nudes in my WC street scenes abscent surreal night mood:

Sketch from eyewitness photo. King #LeopoldII statue in #Antwerp burned and drenched in red paint to symbolize the 10 million #Congolese he murdered, and the countless #civilians he mutilated. A fitting dressing for a #rascist mass murderer . #BLMprotest
3/3 The man himself: Jacob van Es of Antwerp, here heralded as a fine painter of fruits, fish, birds, and flowers. Not really so many birds, to be fair. Print by Wenceslas Hollar.
