Populations of this gorgeous seabird have fallen due to a decline in sand eel populations (climate change & overfishing), but seeing puffins nesting on remains one of my most treasured wildlife experiences.

These designs are based on a combination of various seabirds and pterosaurs - red-footed boobies, magnificent frigatebirds, Ornithocheirus, and Nyctosaurus - with a pirate motif all around. Maraupen is also based on the Ropen, a pterosaur-like cryptid from Papua New Guinea.
