Oh, I think the problem was me! 😁
I'm old, with slow-reactions these days (and am too lazy to break out the old C64/Amiga joysticks sometimes).. So the C64 and Amstrad ones I eventually cheated on for an easy play-through. I couldn't find a good cheat Speccy version. 😋

The Speccy gameplay was ok. But it didn't manage to wow me somehow. The controls were fine. But maybe I was a little underwhelmed with the sprites. They seemed a little tall and boxed. Like I could see the rectangle they were supposed to fit. I was hoping for a little more flair.

That Speccy port was something else! It was the game responsible for me buying a ZX Spectrum again, a '+2' this time in 1989 after I'd sold my 48k Spectrum some years ago. As a massive fan of the arcade version as soon as I saw this game running on a Speccy it was a must have! 👍

The text adventure wasn't so awesome. But, when I first saw it on a friend's Speccy, I had seen very few text adventures. The important thing was I was in the Hobbit hole, Gandalf and Thorin were there, and a few random moves later I was eaten by trolls. Excellent stuff. 😎

arcade conversion of Afterburner. Again, it is a vey slick and smooth port to the Speccy, but is somewhat lacking IMHO. Thoughts?

It's a tough choice. I mean, the C64 version is what I played for years and years, so it's like it's the 'correct' version in my mind. 😁 ..and yet, the Speccy version has no flicker. Something that I'm insanely jealous of. haha.
