My take on the designs is, they're moving to more articulated designs, switching out clunky elements for streamlined elements.
@its_tracker @HazbinHotel The new designs help streamline animation, the golden rule is keep it simple. This is KIND OF A THING with any animation EVER. Tell an animator "hey animate THIS" (the old design) they run for the hills. As long as they pass the silhouette test IT'S FINE. Which they DO.

Like look at this. Toy Menasor is a clumsy, brilliant, blocky charcoal goofball and I'll love him forever; while Cartoon Menasor is a streamlined, cleaner, darker, spikier beast and I can take it or leave it. How the hell are you gonna please everybody? Happy for the toon fans 🤷♂️

Also, dissect a bird. Diverticula right beneath the skin are all over the place, often for no clear reason (other than maybe streamlining).
