Sonic & SEGA, making golf look HARD and COOL!

(2D art by Yuji Uekawa)

I always forget that the Shigeo Nagashima Invitational Sega Sammy Cup is held on August.

They do some cool stuff for it, a couple of years ago they put some Puyo Puyo decorations around the golf course. Seems this year Uekawa made some Sonic art for it.

are you an early uekawa sonic guy or a late uekawa sonic guy (taken from the stock art assets dvd so their colors are the same)

oh yeah I do art sometimes, i forgot

og made by 29yami on SHC's discord server, I kept and tweaked the lineart then redid the shading to be similar to Uekawa's artworks.

using a limited color palette was a challenge but a fun one (made for a MD romhack)

Tried the early-Uekawa style with another new character, Ranger the Orangutan.

Well the 3D artstyle for classic characters is pretty bad besides Eggman, but they’re so carelessly done anyway, especially since by the end of the Saturn Era when classic was being phased out, he had long spikes and was noticeably taller, and Uekawa’s redesigns weren’t as tall

Honestly, the way I draw him now has been my favorite! Modern Sonic is my fav version of his design, with Unleashed as my favorite specific model. I take influences from Tyson Hesse, Yuji Uekawa, and the IDW artists and try to add some of my own touches and flair to him.

Uekawa still does Sonic's grin 'til this day, even after 2006, if that's what you meant

getting closer to the uekawa look proceduraly (outside of the eyes), and with the forces model

All Facts. Uekawa loved to capture the “flow of movement” during this Era.

as for why theyre doing it, its probably because uekawa has been avoiding it too?
